Ponderings on the World of Dating and Relationships

-->
By Adrienne Kather, LPC

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about dating and relationships. Not only because I have just re-entered dating/relationship world after years of not being in it (even during years of being single), but also because many people in my life are in various stages in dating/relationship world as well. It seems to me that it’s an often confusing and difficult place to be because there are hardly any easy, black-and-white answers to the questions that come up. I don’t have the answers, but I’d like to share the things I’ve learned/decided for myself and the things I’m wondering about.

New Year's Revelations

By Cindy O'Donnell, LCSW

    Every year since I can remember, on Jan 1st, New Year's Resolutions are made.  These are usually things that we want to try and improve on, things we want to change.  We make resolutions to lose weight, stop smoking, spend more time with family or friends, be more kind, etc.  We make these kind of resolutions and then around about Jan 20th they are promptly broken.  Sometimes we may feel guilty about this, sometimes relieved, but mostly our resolutions are forgotten.

    This New Years, I encourage everyone to not think of a general goal such as "lose weight." Instead, let's try something new this year and focus more on the types of emotions or experiences we would like to have in 2014.

Here at HCCI we promote prayer because we believe in it. The use of prayer has long been considered highly therapeutic and this has been affirmed numerous times by various professional studies as well as personal anecdotes spoken and written about for more than 2000 years.

'Tis the season to be thankful, jolly and joyous. TV and radio have been playing Christmas music for weeks, newspaper and magazine ads have been blasting Black Friday specials. Thanksgiving is in a few days; three weeks later we have Christmas and New Years. What happens however, when you are grieving the loss of a loved one this year?

Just Tell Me What To Do To Make It Better!

On January 14, 2014, Heritage Counseling Center will be presenting a seminar to help people struggling with anxiety, hard to parent children, ministry burnout and marriage. We are calling it Just Tell Me What To Do To Make It Better! not because we have a quick magical fix but rather to provide people a path to get better-steps that if taken will move fellow strugglers towards better and better.
